The Saints had released Doug Martin earlier in the offseason, and under league rules, he cannot resign Martin in the same season. "To waive a player, type the player's name, contract and cap hit that you will be taking in and post in the appropriate section. An owner will still be responsible for 35% of the waived player for the duration of the contract unless the player is picked up off the waiver wire. This is to ensure that owners do not place lucrative contract offers on unproven players. The owner who released the player will not be able to resign the released player for that entire season."
