I dont think I've missed a podcast since joining the league Frank. Always extremely interesting to get the more off the cuff style commentary.
I share the concern about LBs becoming overpowered. For that reason I plan to vote against the current proposal. I would be all in favor increacing Pass Def/Int to help especially CBs, but I feel like LB value is pretty much where it needs to be. I think probably the biggest scoring issue on defense is DE. The very top 3/4 DEs are absolute fantasy monsters and it seems like everyone else is lucky to score 6 points most weeks. I would love to see DL stats boosted in some way that wouldnt have Devin White putting up 60 point games due to a broad increase in tackles or sacks. DL is often one of those positions where value isnt directly correlated to statistical production so that makes it tough.
As for the practice squad, it's a tricky one because teams like the Jets and myself who hugged that 53-man roster last season (every season) will be filling that sucker up. A part of me likes the idea that a team in need could poach those players that I deemed not important enough to stash on the main roster. Perhaps, for example, something could be done for players brought up to the main roster in a pinch. DT Raekwon Davis, for example, was a 4th round developmental pick for me. If I had one, he would have been stashed on my practice squad last season. If I made the decision to stash him, but brought him up to play on a Jaleel Johnson bye week, I think perhaps Davis could be subjected to NFL style practice squad rules.
For example. 1. Davis is on my practice squad. 2. Week 8, I need him to play on my main roster. 3. He scores 15 points. 4. Because he is a practice squad player, he must pass through "waivers" in order to be sent back to my squad. 5. The Rams saw that game and want to sign him to their main roster so they put in a claim. 6. I can keep him, but he must be signed to the main roster like the real NFL.
I feel like this would force teams like myself to make real decisions about who they want to put on that practice squad. For example, my 2nd round developmental TE Adam Trautman would be a tough decision at that point, knowing if I use that PS spot for him I could be put in a tough spot later. Someone like 0 snap rookie QB Cole McDonald would be a more obvious use of the spot. This also wouldnt change anything if I was to stash Trautman or Davis all year, or even decide in week 10 or whatever that I want him on my active roster full time. Perhaps the same rule would apply if you originally signed a player like Jordan Love to the main roster and wanted to demote him mid season, he may be subject to those waivers. Just a thought that makes the squad require some additional strategy and prevent it from just becoming a straight up roster size increace with extra steps. This would also boost the competitive advantage to weaker teams who have higher waiver priority.

Also, I know it's just ranting at this point as it's not really related, but I had a thought last season that I just remembered regarding in season FA.
If a LB on a 1 year 8M deal blows his achilles in week 10 and I am hurting for cap space, I may make the decision to cut him. If he passes through waivers, and with most teams being up against it for cap space, a team might get a good player on an absolute bargain price because most of the league is either broke or not checking FA daily. Some kind of 4 year 1m deal for a productive player who would be getting a 5m/yr deal in the offseason.
It would be a big change, but I think if you cut a player during the season and nobody wants him enough to claim his current contract, he should be a FA until offseason free agency. This would be another big boost to waiver priority value, but it would also serve the ever important job of keeping offseason free agency as relevant, useful, and active as possible. Alternatively, this FA shutdown could occur alongside the trade deadline to make sure teams can retool effectively for a playoff push/rebuild.

Jesse, I have pondered the scoring changes for about a week now, and I have yet to technically open voting on the new proposed scoring changes because Im not sure I want to raise LB's any higher. I looked over the LB market, and apart from the top 5 WR, the WR and LB positions are similar in regards to scoring, which tells me that LB's are probably where they need to be. That being said, I think we can use a small bump for DL and Secondary. We have also received a few comments along the lines as to what you have said as well, and I think the best course of action will be to vote on the scoring changes by individual category instead of a broad group scoring changes. Thanks for your thoughts!
