Cincinnati Bengals Send: Joyner, Lamarcus (NYJ S) $2.10 2021 UFA Year 2022 Round 2 Draft Pick from Detroit Lions
Houston Texans send Aiyuk, Brandon SFO WR $1.50 2024 UFA
Bannals send this offer to again add some depth in a much needed area. We are spending our draft capital, but feel it's needed. Grabbing Aiyuk was something I'm willing to take a gamble on. He has talent, but has been the 4th option this year. Hoping he bounces back.

Is this trade valid since it doesn't get the Texans to the roster minimum? Not sure how we are approaching teams that are under or over rosters.

I would think that the validity of a trade wouldn't be based upon meeting, or working toward meeting the roster minimum, as the Rules explicitly state the requirements.
However, imho, as a separate transaction, Texans probably should incur some sort of penalty for remaining in non-compliance with the failure to timely meet minimum requirements. Especially since a warning has already been issued before the deadline and more than adequate time has passed to reach it.

Although I'm not sure of HOW this trade helps Texans sort her team out as she expresses, it does not take away from active roster limit.

I’m sorry. Went back and forth on this a lot, Texans don’t have a ton of assets and are on the verge of being an extremely difficult rebuild. A 2nd is not enough for a young WR who showed so much promise, even if he did start this season hurt. It’s just not enough, especially when the Lions pick probably won’t exactly be a top 10 pick. There are a lot of moves that need to be made on the roster, getting rid of Aiyuk isn’t one of them.

I have been going back and forth on this trade. I think there are two things against it, Houston roster limit issue and the compensation on this trade. I agree with Jesse’s assessment on this trade. It’s hard for me to approve a trade when one team is really low on overall talent and are trading one of their only talented young pieces and only getting a projected low 2nd rd pick for him. Aiyuk showed great upside last year and once he is healthy he will reclaim his glory in my opinion. Ultimately, I just feel there are too many questions around this deal to approve

I tend to struggle with these kind of deals. I agree with the previous GM's it's a short sell on the upside of Aiyuk. I usually lean more to letting GM's build their team as they see fit. In this circumstance though I feel the state of the Texans roster comes into question with this kind of deal.
Joyner is already out for the year. If it was a different player or pick coming back to the Texans with the 2nd might have worked out better. With Cincy previously being over roster limits and Texans under would have been a nice opportunity to switch up some of that depth to help both rosters. Anyways just some thoughts. If these GM's still want to get this done sure they can figure it out.
