1st Amendment: Practice Squad Poaching
Proposal to introduce a new mechanic designed to better reflect the usage, value and means of player addition that the real life practice squads offer.
New rule would allow any player listed on a team's MFL Taxi Squad to be "Signed" by any team in the league with the cap and roster space available to add them to their 48-man roster. In order to sign a practice squad player, a team would create a thread on proboards indicating their intention to sign the player and tagging the GM of the team currently rostering the player. The original GM would then have 7 days to either bring the player up to their main roster, or indicate that they will allow the player to sign with the claiming team. During this 7 day window, any other team may submit a claim on the player. In the case of multiple claims the waiver order would determine ownership.
This rule change would create a new means of player acquisition for both rebuilding and competing teams while preserving the benefit of the taxi squad to begin with: a means to allow additional spots specifically for prospects who are not ready to provide value on a roster. This would also prevent the practice of stashing high value young players on the taxi squad in order to tank for draft position as we saw in 2021. The Rousseau Rule.
Practice squads would freeze at the trading deadline, meaning all taxi squad poaching would cease at this time to prevent eliminated teams from having to protect their rosters after their season has ended.

I've done this in one of my leagues although I went the extra step in that to place a player on a PS you must first waive said player and expose him to the waiver market. If he went unclaimed he would then get placed on the original teams PS. If he is claimed and the claimant wanted him on his PS that would have had to be posted as such
It was a nice wrinkle but it added work for the commishes ...

Yeah that's one reason I proposed like that. In the GroupMe I mentioned a waiver system like the NFL uses but anything that prevents commishes from having to babysit rosters we should probably try to work into the proposal. I think it should at least have to be delcared on Proboards, a lot of us were doing that anyway, but again thats very hard to police without combing through rosters looking for changes. And what's the penalty for if someone just moves someone to PS? Usually I find stuff works better when MFL best reflects that kind of thing. If you're scrolling through the rosters page of MFL, the guys listed there as taxi squad should be the "official" list even if they didnt update on proboards as well
