Following up on recent chatter in Chatango, I wanted to put this option to a vote. I will include the below three options but feel free to discuss below. If another idea has real traction we can add the option.
The past two years in Legacy Unrestricted Free Agency has been very much unrestricted. As soon as the whistle blew to begin bidding on free agents, five pages filled with almost every valuable player on the market. This processed severely handcuffed teams who chose to play by the rules as a few bids on high dollar players effectively tied any cash they had to spare for 2nd and 3rd tier players, let alone other top stars. This process also saw the exciting process end in no time at all, with the majority of desirable players being won in about five days. I really dislike this organization of the process and want to slam my fist on the table to request a change back towards our old system. After hearing feedback from both sides, I want to propose a 30 player limit at a time. I believe this is a large enough number to allow for a fast paced and exciting process, but limits the flood of players that cause salary shrinkage.
Slowing this process down just a little bit will allow league leadership to actually check salary caps on bids. I can think of only one example during our 2022 free agency period where a bid was declared invalid due to lack of cap space. I am 100% certain there were more we were unable to catch because doing that math and checking for 32 teams would have been a full time job. 30 players is a higher limit than even most people seemed to think was a high end request, and I think it allows us to see a fast paced but fair process play out, where teams have time to trade and adjust their strategies in the middle of the process instead of a massive explosion of activity followed by a month of dead time before the draft. This change would be good for the league.
