I know we have discussed the idea of getting rid of a second extension on a player, as a max length of 11 years protection from a rookie being drafted in this league seems unfair for that player to never test the free agent market. And, Im in favor of restricting a second extension on any given player. However, if we were to remove the second extension for any given player, how about we add a short term extension for a second player every offseason.
The current extension rule allows for a max up to 3 years extension, which we could call the 'Long Term Extension'
How about we add a second extension called the 'Short Term Extension' for a second player every offseason that would extend for a maximum of only 2 years.
This could lessen the blown for GM's that have drafted young, and don't feel they're losing as much if we were to remove the second extension from any given player.
Plus, I think it would be fun to have a second extension, without crippling future free agency too much.
Thoughts?

I like any idea that involves adding more extensions per year.
Again, to me, the issue of "too many extensions" is not an extension problem, it's a cap problem. Teams should be able to extend as many players as they have cap for. If you want more players in the FA pool then adjust the cap.

I am in favor of having 2 extensions, one long and one short. It does take away from the FA pool, but not as much as the 2nd extension.
I'm also a fan of multiple extensions on the same player

I am def a fan of 2 extensions also. Especially now that we can’t extend 1 player more than once.
