Just throwing this out there... I have always wished my 2nd round picks were not three year contracts. I always thought it should go something like..
1st Rd 5 years no RFA 2nd RD 4 years no RFA 3rd and 4th 3 years with RFA status
Or maybe Twist to the second round on the 4 years to make up for the no RFA status

If I remember correctly we used to allow teams to choose 5yr or 3yr + RFA on all picks but it was stopped for one reason or another. I think everyone was either exploiting the cheap RFA (at the time) or locking everyone to 5yr deals so RFA was pointless.
I think we'd have to consider how much RFA would take a hit by losing those 2nd round players. At the moment Owners have an option of extending an RFA player to avoid having to go through the RFA process with them.

I always assumed RFA contracts could be extended before hitting RFA. It doesn't push RFA eligibility back obviously, they are just extended and never reach that process.
