Adam Shefter reporting from the Big Apple
"The New York Giants have been attempting to acquire another veteran linebacker for several weeks now, offering the 2.1 pick in this years rookie draft. And some NFL insiders are scratching their heads why no other franchise has taken them up on their offer. The 2.1 pick is obviously the closet thing to a late first rounder, but if we take a look at some of the names that came off the board in the 2nd round last year (Vacarro, Te'O, Cyprien, Jordan Reed, Mathieu) it's hard to understand why some teams havn't jumped on this opportunity. The idea of replacing a veteran player in the last years of his career, with usually a short lived high priced contract, and to replace him with a long term cheap contract for a player that can contribute right away is blowing the minds of these insiders. And the word is that in a draft class this deep in 2014, there will definitely be some starters at the 2.1 position, that will contribute right away"
