When we implemented the rule that there is no more multi year bids after week 12, we never considered the one year maximum contract price limitation in this league, which is set a 12m for a 1 year deal. Again, this rule was implemented as a way to stop some abuses by teams that were bidding in free agency after the playoffs had started, blocking potential non-playoff teams. That being said, it something we may need to clean up in the offseason. However, I have been in multiple leagues where FA bidding in a few leagues at this point in the season has exceeded contracts of over 12m.
In other words, do we suspend the rule for the playoffs and allow the highest 1 year offer win the player, or is first one to 12M wins the player?

I personally feel such bids are in most cases ridiculous (and very unrealistic), as they ultimately affect the franchise values. In this regard I believe the current limit is generous. On the other side of that coin, since all is fair in love and war (our love for the game and war in competitiveness), I cannot think of a legitimate reason to abide by the $12 Mil limit imposed on 1-year bids during the playoffs. Especially considering the original rule considers multi-year bids - which has systematically been eliminated during the playoffs.

My biggest concern with putting a limit on 1 year bids is that a team looses the ability to increase the offer. Therefore I feel it’s almost a disadvantage. One team can just do an opening bid at 1 year @ 12M and it’s done they win. Same can be said for an intense bidding war. When a team gets tired of negotiating they just go to the max amount and then it’s done. I would vote to have no limit, the most important part of free agency is bidding and this rule limits that. I would say we let the spirit of free agency live and have no limit.

This is a no brainer imo Change needs to be made. There isn’t one argument for keeping the limit for playoff free agency...not a single one
