This is a rule that I am bringing up once again, as I believe this position is severely underpaid in terms of extensions. The 5M extension that we have on the books is extremely low, and it is a great disservice to the players that we as a league need to represent better. Lets remember, this is an owner based league, player representation is very minimal at the moment, really in the hands of the commissioner for any type of representation. My proposal would be a gradual increase as to not scare off any GM's who are looking to put an extension on an RB in the future.
2019: 0m increase
2020: 1m increase
2021: 1m increase
In essence, what I propose is actually a very modest increase of 2M per contract extension on the first extension for the RB position, who in the open market may demand a whole lot more money. We will raise the second extension very minimally at 12M. In essence the contract extension price will move from 5M up to 7M on the first extension, and from 10M up to 12M on the second.
Again, GM's need to really consider passing this proposition, as the prices for this position is off base in terms of fair compensation for the RB position.
NOTE: WHILE I WILL LET GM's DECIDE ON THIS MATTER AGAIN THIS YEAR, IF IT WERE TO FAIL, I WILL CONSIDER FORMING A PLAYERS UNION FOR LEGACY NFL, AT WHICH POINT AS YOUR COMMISSIONER I MAY HAVE VERY LITTLE INFLUENCE OVER FUTURE PLAYER PRICES. ITS AN IDEA I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT FOR WHILE, IF I BELIEVE GM's ARE PROTECTING THEIR OWN INTERESTS RATHER THAN CONSIDERING THE BETTERMENT OF THE LEAGUE. I WILL GO OUT AND GET PLAYER REPRESENTATION INDEPENDENT OF THE COMMISSIONERS OFFICE. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A THREAT OF ANY KIND, BUT BECAUSE I HAVE LEFT THIS POTENTIAL RULE CHANGE IN THE HAND OF THE OWNERS, IT WOULD BE QUITE HYPOCRITICAL OF ME SIMPLY TO MOVE ON THESE MOTIONS AFTER OWNERSHIP HAS VOTED, THUS THIS PUTS THE LEAGUE COMMISSIONER IN A REALLY BAD SPOT IN TERMS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS AND OWNER SELF INTEREST. THUS AT THAT POINT A BUFFER BETWEEN THE COMMISSIONERS OFFICE AND OWNERSHIP WILL HAVE TO BE CREATED, AND A PLAYERS UNION LEAD BY A CREDIBLE GM WHO UNDERSTANDS THE COMPLEXITY OF THIS PROBLEM WILL BE APPOINTED AS THE PLAYERS UNION REP. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS COMPLEX, BUT ITS REALLY NOT, AS I WILL GIVE POWER TO THE UNION REP TO STRIKE AND POTENTIALLY SHUT DOWN LEAGUE ACTIVITIES FOR ANY GIVEN AMOUNT OF TIME UNTIL A NEW COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT CAN BE REACHED.
