We had some preliminary talks last year on possibly raising extension prices for certain position that some GM's feel maybe be under paying players.
Here is the discussion thread: legacynfl.boards.net/thread/5806/contract-extension-prices
The proposition will be incremental:
Should we raise the extension price on the RB and WR position by 1M on the first extension and by 2M on the second extension starting in 2019.
Here is the current league rule on contract extensions:
Contract Extension
Instead of Transition Tags we are going to allow every GM to offer an EXTENSION CONTRACT to ONE player each season who has at least ONE YEAR left on their contract. If a player is a UFA then that player may not be resigned, they must have at least ONE year left on their contract. The Extension contract may add up to 3 YEARS on a players current contract and will cost 150% PER YEAR of the players HIGHEST PAID YEAR on their REMAINING contract. A player may not ever exceed a 6 YEARS contract. If a player is under a $5 MIL Salary during time of first extension, those additional extension years must be at a minimum of $5 Mil on the players first extension, and a minimum of $10 Mil on that players 2nd extension.
We have amended this to have a tiered contract extension rule based on position:
Contract option A: 150% or 5M for these positions (QB,RB,WR,TE,LB) --- (10M minimum for 2nd extension)
Contract option B: 150% or 4M for these positions (DE,K,S) --- (8M minimum for 2nd extension)
Contract option C: 150% or 3M for these positions (DT,CB) ---(6M minimum for 2nd extension)
Starting in 2017, we will be raising the QB extension price to better reflect market value, as per 2016 Proposition 8 vote.
Here is how the graduated increase will take place:
2016: No Changes
2017: 6M and 11M
2018: 7M and 12M
2019: 8M and 14M
