This is proposal to shorten the trade deadline by two weeks, instead of the middle of week 7, this would make the trade deadline in the middle of week 5. Going past the half way point in the regular season seems excessive, as the RL NFL has it at the 6 week mark in a 16 game schedule. This would place the trade deadline just a few days short of the half way mark of the regular season, as this will hopefully lead to less fire sale trades when GM's are packing it in for the season that throw off the competitive balance of the league. After 10 months of building your team, there's a point where you have to go with what you have, rather than a potential undervalued trade from a GM who's has lost interest in the current season.

If you're a GM who's lost interest in the season then you really need to go back to redraft. This is dynasty and you should be allowed to keep building as long as possible imo. Trading prices should actually increase as the season gets older not be a time for cheap deals. GM's "going for it" should pay a bit of a premium for that player that could put them over the top. Especially if they need to replace an important injured player and that then filters to the poor team by way of new blood or draft pick/s
The longer the trade window the more GM's can stay engaged in the league. Also for me the 5 week deadline means having to make the decision to play or pass much trickier, it's very early for some to make that decision.

You have 9 months out of the year to do all the franchise building you want. In the end, what really matters is the competitive balance of the league, to have league playoff races and titles decided by a mad rush to see what GM can pick off a another GM who is having a fire sale destroys the entire concept of franchise building. Forcing GM's to make that decision earlier is exactly what I am looking to do, because most teams after 9 months of franchise building should be in a position to compete, and the throwing away of seasons simply for franchise building distorts playoff races and the level of competition going down the stretch of season. I see it year after year after year, the GM's that have the fire sale not only become less engaged in this league, but they have virtually no effective line-up in place for the stretch run of the season, and the few teams that are competing for playoffs spots essentially comes down to who has the easiest and the most gifted wins, this in turns makes it much more difficult for top end teams to be upended in the playoffs. The NFL figured this out a long times ago as well, this is why we don't see a trade deadline past the half point of their season, as their interest is to have as many team as possible competing all the way to the end.

i lean making it deeper into the season... competing teams with stacked rosters tend to have short contract lives and i believe they need as much opportunity to complete their goals as possible. Winning championships in this league is going to get harder and harder every year. Someone going for the gold is always sacrificing future opportunities to win now, and i believe that will be more so as the years roll by.
